DON Kazutaka OchiaiDON Kazutaka Ochiai

With colors, forms and subject matter that one instinctively associates with childhood, Don's paintings express a universal longing for companionship and connection. Human heads have been distilled down to light blue or pink circles which either fill up the canvas or touch each other to create a seamless flow. His imagery straddles boundaries in that it strives for simplicity as well as profundity. With the delicate shading of his forms, as well as a skilled use of soothing and tranquil colors, Don takes an experimental approach to visually express the vague and elusive depths of the human heart. He says that the birth of his son profoundly affected him in that he deeply understood that nothing was more precious than human life. His primary aesthetic goal is for the viewer of his work to rediscover unknown and inner selves.

Don's outlook on life, and his paintings, with their engaging balance between gravity and levity, express themes that invites the viewer to share and explore.
