Chris SpuglioChris Spuglio

Chris Spuglio’s acrylic on canvas paintings focus on his impressive impasto texturization and appealing geometric abstraction. Working in earth tones, largely rust, charcoal, maroon, burnt umber and indigo, his work considers transitions between the stages of existence and non-existence. Evidence of growth, repair and decay dominate the composition in elegiac reflections on absence, loss and regeneration.  The metaphysical leaning and skillful rendering of organic matter gives each piece a unique and startling effect. At one time, a shimmering haze or opalescent finish might give the work a surprising, almost heavenly glimmer. At other times, an allusion to acid rain, erosion or natural disaster dominates the scene. Ever present is the suggestion of death, regeneration and the symbolism to be found in the depths of semi-conscious states.

Chris Spuglio was born in 1976 in Boston, MA, where he currently lives and works. He received a BA in Fine Art from Salem University and is of German and Italian descent.
