Charles Imbro

In their exquisitely clean lines, delightful patterns and ebullient colors, Charles Imbro’s paintings of American transportation infrastructure evoke WPA posters. A native Brooklynite, now based in New Jersey, Imbro updates the bright palette and retro forms of sun-splashed bridges, trains and highways with elements of fantasy and magical realism. He thus imbues those monuments to industry with an appropriately fanciful grandeur. By creating surprisingly rhythmic tonal sequences and intricate networks of geometric forms,  Charles Imbro offers a vision of industry and infrastructure as the net securing and foundation supporting America’s dreamscapes.
