Andy Insh’s paintings of the London cityscape present a personal view of urban life that resonates with a universal audience. Reflecting an informed awareness of art history, Insh renders his cityscapes with a geometric perspective first introduced by the Italian Renaissance artists while employing the pointillist brushwork of post-Impressionist painter and color theorist Georges Seurat. Although Insh uses a conspicuous brushstroke, his ultimate goal is to remove his presence from the painting entirely. Instead, he hopes his works posses an organic quality, as if they have sprung to life on their own. While depicting city scenes filled with architecture, people, and natural elements, Insh incorporates his own artistic symbolism, with which he frequently addresses the concepts of change and attraction. In doing so, Insh seeks to produce a modern mythology for the present day viewer, revealing the wonder and mystery hidden in plain sight.
Andy Insh frequently exhibits his work in London, where he currently resides.
